Ukraine bows its head: Stories of heroism and commemoration of the war dead
On this day, June 24, 2026, various Ukrainian sources are publishing details about a series of male and female fighters who met their deaths on the battlefields against Russian aggression. The reports focus on the personal stories of the fallen, some of whom were defined as missing for long months before being found.
The 'Ukrainska Pravda' website, which is identified with a distinctly pro-Ukrainian stance, reports on the fall of Pavlo Dutkevych, a fighter in the 80th Brigade, who was killed on January 6, 2025, in the Kursk region. His sister noted that after ten months of searching, "I found him, but, unfortunately, not alive".
At the same time, the 'Ukrinform' news agency and 'ArmyINFORM' published words in memory of the medic Olena Kovtunenko, who served on the front line in Donetsk and was killed on November 20, 2023, while providing aid under fire.
The Lviv Regional Military Administration published an extensive list of fighters from the region who fell in battles at various points in Donetsk and Luhansk, including Maksym Chaikovsky and Marian Hrytsyk, who had been defined as missing for a prolonged period. Additional sources, including the 'Suspilne Dnipro' channel and UA Stream, reported the fall of additional fighters from the Dnipro and Kyiv regions.
All reports emphasize the importance of the national moment of silence held daily at 09:00, as a sign of solidarity with the victims and their families, while highlighting the heavy price Ukraine is paying in its struggle to protect its sovereignty.
