Tensions surrounding an Israeli project at the Cave of the Patriarchs complex in Hebron

The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs issued an official statement of condemnation following activities by Israeli security forces this morning, June 23, 2026, at the Cave of the Patriarchs (Ibrahimi Mosque) complex in Hebron.

According to a report by the Daily Islamist channel, which is identified with a distinct Islamist line, the Ministry condemned what it termed a "new Jewish project" at the site. The channel notes that this is a continuation of the Israeli government's policy in the region.

At the same time, Sondakika Haber Gündem, a Turkish news channel, reported that the Palestinian Ministry specifically referred to the removal of shading structures in the mosque's courtyard. According to the report, the move is being carried out in preparation for a broader plan intended to connect the mosque's courtyard with permanent roofing. The Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf defined the step as a violation of the status quo at the holy site.

As of now, no official response has been provided by the IDF Spokesperson's Unit or the Civil Administration regarding the nature of the work or its final purpose at the complex.
