Diplomatic Tension Over the Implementation of Iran-U.S. Agreements
In the last 24 hours, there has been noticeable growing tension surrounding a series of claims raised by the U.S. administration regarding understandings with Iran. According to the Middle East Spectator, a channel identified with positions critical of the U.S. and promoting a hawkish line in Iran, Washington presented three key conditions that it claims were agreed upon: restricting the use of unfrozen funds ($6 billion) to the purchase of American agricultural products only, the return of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to Iran, and holding negotiations on Tehran's missile program.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei firmly rejected the American claims. As reported in the Middle East Spectator, Baghaei clarified that the Central Bank of Iran "will use the funds as it wishes," and emphasized that the agency's inspectors will not return to Iran without a final and conclusive agreement. Regarding the missile program, reports in the Iranian news agencies 'Fars' and 'Tasnim' denied the existence of any contacts on the matter.
The Middle East Spectator channel criticized the conduct of the political echelon in Tehran, claiming that this ambiguity opens the door for American manipulation. The channel warns that "it is of paramount importance that the memorandum of understanding be implemented in full, without compromises."
According to the channel, history shows that Iran tends at times to reject concessions initially, only to admit to them later with minor phrasing changes. The channel's recommendation to the Iranian administration is to take active steps against "false narratives," including the use of military threats or suspending negotiations, to prevent the U.S. from achieving further gains through psychological warfare.
