Ukrainian security authorities have arrested an additional suspect in the case of the attempted assassination of Military Intelligence (GUR) spokesperson, Andriy Yusov, who also serves as Deputy Head of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War. As reported by GUR MO Ukrainy, the suspect is a 34-year-old discharged soldier who allegedly acted as a "mediator between representatives of the Russian security services and the organizer of the crime," coordinated the preparations, and even secured payment for the perpetrators.
The case was first uncovered on June 8, 2026, when a 38-year-old suspect was arrested. According to information gathered from several channels, including Operatyvnyi ZSU and TSAPLIENKO_UKRAINE FIGHTS, Russian intelligence agents offered a sum of $100,000 for the elimination of Yusov. For the mission, the perpetrators planned to use an FPV-type drone, with some of the funds transferred in advance as financing for the purchase of weapons and surveillance.
The National Police of Ukraine notes that the first suspect gathered detailed intelligence on the senior official's daily routine, travel routes, and place of residence. Ukrainska Pravda reports that the mediator who has now been arrested had been operating for months, starting in February, to convince the perpetrators to carry out the murder.
In response to an inquiry from Novyny.LIVE, Andriy Yusov addressed the assassination attempts, stating that it is a risk that accompanies the work of those who have sworn allegiance to the Ukrainian people: "Ukrainians are exposed to danger every day, first and foremost the guys at the front, but also every citizen in the rear." Investigation proceedings against the agent network are currently continuing under the supervision of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
