[96510] Regional Tension: Iran reports understandings with the US, Israel rejects any involvement
While Iran reports progress in negotiations with the US regarding Lebanon and the Persian Gulf, Israeli Finance Minister Smotrich clarifies that Israel will not be part of these agreements.
Diplomatic and military developments surrounding Iran and the US
On June 23, 2026, a series of significant developments were reported in the diplomatic and military arena in the Middle East. The Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, stated to Sputnik Türkiye that "mutual understandings" had been reached with the US in talks in Switzerland regarding ensuring the sovereignty of Lebanon, establishing a center for coordinating the withdrawal of forces and managing the ceasefire, alongside agreements on the management of the Strait of Hormuz.
On the other hand, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich responded sharply to these reports. According to Smotrich, as also published in Son Dakika Haberler Gündem, Israel is not part of the negotiations with Tehran: "We will not hold talks or reach agreements with the devil." According to DoğruHaber, the minister clarified that Israel will continue its military actions in Lebanon with determination, regardless of the American-Iranian contacts.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry, through spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei, conveyed additional messages on gdh: It is claimed that the US committed not to increase its military presence in the region during the negotiation period and even to withdraw within 30 days of a final agreement. It was further reported that Iran's missile program is not on the discussion table and that there are no restrictions on the use of frozen financial assets of Tehran.
Meanwhile, ambiguity was noted regarding nuclear supervision. While President Donald Trump claimed on Sputnik Türkiye that Iran would accept comprehensive supervision, the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson clarified on the same channel that there is currently no plan to resume inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors at the damaged facilities.
