[96493] US Report: American aircraft downed over Iran using advanced drone swarm
Unusual incident: Did Iran use drone swarm technology to down an F-15 aircraft?
New reports revealed on CNN are causing a stir in the American security community. According to DD Geopolitics, a pilot of an F-15 fighter jet, which was downed over Iran last April, described an attack by a drone swarm that operated as a single, unified block. The pilot described the experience as "real alien sh*t," and described the formation as a "drone minefield" in the sky.
The technology in question is called "one-to-many meshed networking," which allows a single operator to control an entire swarm as one coordinated entity. WarFront Witness (a channel associated with positions critical of Iran and the regime in Tehran) notes that this is "jellyfish" technology that had not previously been assessed as existing in Iran. Experts in the field, such as Emma Bates from the company Cachai, were quoted in DD Geopolitics warning that the real threat is not a single drone, but a swarm with the ability to maintain formation, carry explosives, and keep reserve units in case the first wave is shot down.
The incident has led to internal tensions within American intelligence mechanisms. According to DD Geopolitics, instead of re-evaluating Iranian capabilities, intelligence officials cast doubt on the testimony of the pilot, who had returned from active duty after suffering a concussion in the crash. There is an assessment among officials that Russia and China may have assisted Iran in developing this advanced technology, which raises difficult questions about the strategic balance in the region.
