Towards the 26th Knesset Elections: Focus on Exercising the Right to Vote
In a move designed to ensure that every citizen can reach the ballot box without fear, the Chairman of the Central Elections Committee, Justice Noam Sohlberg, and the committee's management, led by Acting Director-General Dean Livne, announced that there will be no arrests of deserters on Election Day. According to the Central Elections Committee announcement as reported on Hot News, the agreement was reached in coordination with the Attorney General, Adv. Gali Baharav-Miara, and the Commissioner of Police, Insp.-Gen. Danny Levy.
The declared goal of the move is to prevent a situation where voters, particularly from the Haredi sector, would refrain from coming to vote for fear of being arrested, as noted in reports on Political Arena and Amir Ettinger & Yuval Segev. Yinon Magal on YINONEWS emphasized that the move is intended to ensure that "everyone can vote." The Israel Police, for its part, promised that it will operate with reinforced forces on Election Day to maintain public order.
In parallel to the logistical preparations, demands are rising for a discussion on technological security issues. According to Politics Updates, Member of Knesset Yael Ron Ben Moshe (Blue and White), who serves as Deputy Chair of the Elections Committee, appealed to Justice Sohlberg with a demand to receive details on the state's preparations for dealing with "foreign interference, the dissemination of false information, and misleading use of artificial intelligence" during the upcoming election campaign.
