This morning (June 23, 2026), major road blocks were reported across the country following ultra-Orthodox protests. According to ynet news, Highway 6 was blocked to traffic by the protesters. At the same time, a public storm erupted over the police conduct during the events: The Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, announced that he is considering permanently distancing and even dismissing the commander of the Bnei Brak station, Chief Superintendent Yuval Shavit.
According to a report in Zirat HaHadashot, the decision is being considered after Chief Superintendent Shavit was "documented pulling an avrech (yeshiva student) and intentionally tearing his trousers" during the clearing of the protesters. ynet news confirmed that the case is under review with the Police Commissioner.
