[95287] Serious medical incident at Sayarim base: Dozens of female observers suffered heatstroke
Failure at Camp Sayarim: Dozens of female observers evacuated for medical treatment following heatstroke
An unusual incident occurred at the 'Sayarim' border defense training base in the Negev, during which approximately 15 female observers participating in a command center course suffered from heatstroke and severe symptoms of dehydration. According to the report by Moriah Asraf and Doron Kadosh on Galei Tzahal, the incident occurred after the soldiers were forced to perform prolonged field activity under extreme heat stress.
Parents' claims of command failure
The soldiers' parents are furious over the conduct of the command at the base. In a conversation with Moriah Asraf and Doron Kadosh, parents noted that this is a recurring pattern: "Half a year ago, there was a similar incident at the same base." According to testimonies, the soldiers were instructed to perform target practice in temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius, which led to fainting and vomiting among the trainees. It was reported that the soldiers who felt unwell were gathered in an infirmary inside the base.
IDF Spokesperson's response
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit stated in response to the matter that over the weekend, a number of soldiers sought medical treatment after feeling unwell. The military noted that: "All the soldiers who reported symptoms received initial medical treatment at the base and were sent to rest in the unit." It was further stated that the soldiers are under the medical supervision of the unit physician.
The news was disseminated by other media outlets, including Hadashot Yisrael IL and Hadashot Bazman, which highlighted the severity of the incident and the claims that the soldiers were forced to stay in the field despite the extreme weather conditions.
