[95285] Coalition crisis over conscription laws and efforts for a ceasefire in Lebanon
Political and diplomatic crisis: Updates for June 22, 2026
Shas coalition threat
The political system is in an uproar following a statement by Shas chairman Aryeh Deri. In News from the Field on Telegram (which tends to be right-wing and critical of Netanyahu), it was reported that Deri issued an ultimatum to the coalition chairman: "The violent arrests of Torah students must stop!", while clarifying that according to News Arena, Shas will not support any coalition legislation until the "Law to Halt Arrests and Basic Law for Torah Study" are advanced. On ynet news, these statements were confirmed, highlighting the deadlock threatening the stability of the government.
Diplomatic developments in Lebanon
In the international arena, progress is emerging in efforts to calm the Lebanese front. On News Arena, it was reported that Qatar and Pakistan announced a "roadmap for a final agreement within 60 days" and the establishment of a "war room to prevent escalation in Lebanon" following contacts between the United States and Iran.
In this context, according to Roi Kais and Guy Elster, Qatar and Pakistan will establish a mechanism to monitor the ceasefire. On ynet news, Araghchi was quoted as noting that the "first real test" of these agreements will be the activity of the cell for preventing friction in Lebanon, which indicates great caution on the part of all parties involved in the contacts.
