Turkey extends restrictions in the second-hand vehicle market
The Turkish Ministry of Trade has announced the extension of regulatory measures in the automotive market, known as the '6-month and 6,000-kilometer' rule, as well as restrictions on vehicle sales advertisements, until January 1, 2027. According to the Ministry of Trade as reported by Gundem Analiz, the measures are intended to ensure price stability in the market and prevent hoarding of goods and price manipulation.
Within the data published by Gundem Analiz, the Ministry of Trade has so far imposed cumulative fines totaling 170 million Turkish Lira on violators of the regulations. Of this amount, 116 million Lira were imposed on entities that advertised prices higher than the price recommended by importers, and 54 million Lira on those who violated the '6-month and 6,000-kilometer' rule.
Additional media outlets, including Gundemedairhs, İhlas Haber Ajansı, and TGRT HABER, confirmed the decision and emphasized its importance to both car dealers and consumers alike. Haber Gündem noted that the Ministry will continue to monitor notaries to prevent transactions by unlicensed individuals selling three or more vehicles per year.
The reports come from a variety of media outlets in Turkey, with the most numerically detailed report coming from the analysis channel Gundem Analiz, which adopts an economic-critical tone toward market manipulations, while other channels such as Sansürsüz Medya +18 and Son Dakika Haberleri provide brief and concise news reporting on the regulatory change.
