[93782] Storm in Turkey: The Turkish Language Association deleted a tweet calling Atatürk the "father of the nation"
Embarrassment in Turkey: Deletion of a post by the Turkish Language Association about Atatürk
A storm erupted today (June 21, 2026) around the Turkish Language Association (TDK), a body subordinate to the Turkish Ministry of Culture. The institute published a controversial statement on its Telegram channel under the title: "Atatürk Türk milletinin babasıdır" (Atatürk is the father of the Turkish nation).
The reports of the publication, which received widespread exposure on the Daily Islamist 🇹🇷 🇵🇸 channel (known for its Islamist editorial line), caused a great resonance. A short while later, the Sansürsüz Medya +18 channel reported that the post was deleted by the institute.
The action raised questions among users and local media regarding the motives behind the initial publication and the decision to remove it. As of now, the Turkish Language Association has not published an official statement explaining the reason for the deletion or the circumstances of publishing the original sentence, which constitutes a sensitive and central issue in Turkish national identity.
