Minister of Transportation, Miri Regev, announced today (June 21, 2026) the advancement of a significant infrastructure project: the construction of a light rail that will connect Gush Etzion to Jerusalem via a direct track. According to reports from Israel News IL and Kol HaHadashot on Telegram, the main goal of the move is to "shorten travel times and reduce congestion" in the area.

Head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council, Yaron Rosenthal, welcomed the decision and defined it as "historic news for the residents and a significant step toward strengthening the connection to Jerusalem." According to him, as quoted in Israel News IL, the project will provide "a solution to the great growth in the area" and will enable a fast and convenient connection to the capital.

Meanwhile, Yinon Magal, who is identified with right-wing, pro-government positions, noted that this is a "transportation revolution in Gush Etzion." Magal added a political remark of his own to the message, noting that if the left side of the political map wins, "this, of course, will not happen."
