During the day (June 21, 2026), Knesset Member Simcha Rothman, who is identified with clear right-wing positions and support for the Netanyahu government, launched a direct attack against the Supreme Court justices. On the YINONEWS Telegram channel, Rothman was quoted as defining the legal discussion on the issue of judicial appointments and Basic Laws as an attempt by a "group of thugs who appointed themselves" to act in opposition to democracy.
Rothman clarified his firm position, according to which any judge engaged in judicial review of Basic Laws that were enacted by a majority of 68 Knesset members is acting illegally. According to Rothman as published on YINONEWS: "A judge who discusses how to appoint judges in a democratic state and in a Basic Law... is a criminal."
