Police enforcement operation against 'parking racketeers' in Ankara

Ahead of the upcoming NATO summit, security forces in Ankara acted against the 'değnekçi' phenomenon – individuals who operate pirate parking lots and collect illegal fees from drivers. According to a report by Gündem Haber, the operation focused on central streets and areas near entertainment venues in the city.

As part of the operation, 30 suspects were arrested on charges of collecting parking fees illegally. Media outlets note that the Ankara prosecutor's office has opened official investigation proceedings against all the suspects who were caught.

The operation is part of Turkey's increased security preparations for hosting the NATO summit, as authorities attempt to tighten control over public order in the capital ahead of the arrival of international delegations.
