Crowds mark the 'Ali Asghar' infant ceremony across Iran

Throughout Friday, June 19, 2026, the traditional religious ceremony known as "Shir-kharvaragan-e Hosseini" (the ceremony of the infants of Hussein), dedicated to the memory of Ali al-Asghar, the infant son of Imam Hussein, was marked across Iran. The events were held simultaneously at major religious centers and in various cities across the country.

According to reports from the 'آخرین خبر' (Akhbar-e Akhar) Telegram channel, mass gatherings were held at major locations including the Mahdieh in Tehran, the Haram-e Motahar-e Razavi (Imam Reza Holy Shrine in Mashhad), and the Haram-e Hazrat-e Masoumeh (Shrine of Fatima Masumeh in Qom). The channel described the atmosphere as "saturated with the scent of devotion to Ali al-Asghar" and noted that mothers arrived in large numbers with their infants for the ceremonies.

The state news agency ایرنا (IRNA), known for its official government line, confirmed the holding of the ceremonies in Mashhad and noted that this is a nationwide ceremony marking the first Friday of the month of Muharram. Other local channels, including آخرین خبر خراسان جنوبی and آخرین خبر مازندران, reported similar events at the Musalla of Birjand and the Hosseiniyeh of Qaemshahr, where prayers and ceremonies were broadcast to the general public.

In addition, local channels such as خراسان آنلاین and اسلام آبادخبر reported on similar assemblies with the participation of local residents, emphasizing that this is a synchronous religious display held at the same time all across the country, as part of the tradition of mourning for the events of Karbala.
