A wave of crime and violence across Ukraine
Throughout the day (June 18, 2026), a number of serious criminal incidents were reported across Ukraine. In the city of Ternopil, Times of Ukraine report that an armed man has barricaded himself inside a residential apartment with a woman and is threatening her life. According to Око Саурона, the suspect may be in possession of a grenade, and "sounds of gunfire" have been reported in the area. Police forces and negotiation teams are operating on the ground in an attempt to end the incident, with various sources stating that the suspect is demanding to meet with an acquaintance (a godparent) in order to surrender.
At the same time, in the capital Kyiv, police authorities reported the arrest of a 25-year-old man, a resident of the Mykolaiv region, who committed a series of robberies in less than an hour. According to ТСН новини / ТСН.ua, the suspect broke into an apartment in the Pecherskyi District through a second-floor window, threatened a tenant with murder, and stole her mobile phone. Shortly thereafter, he attempted to commit another robbery in the Holosiivskyi District using a toy gun, where he was apprehended by law enforcement forces.
The UA Stream channel notes a series of additional criminal incidents, including the murder case of a 17-year-old girl in the village of Velyka Snitynka in the Kyiv region by her 28-year-old neighbor, following a verbal altercation that ended in tragedy. Simultaneously, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced the filing of an indictment against a Russian soldier for the torture of civilians in the Kyiv region.
