The US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war
In a dramatic move that took place during the G7 summit in France, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to end the three-month-long military conflict in the Middle East. According to Radio Svoboda reports, the agreement has already entered into force, with Trump noting that he signed the physical copy in Versailles.
According to information provided by 24 Kanal, the memorandum includes 14 key clauses, among them the cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, the lifting of the US naval blockade within 30 days, and an Iranian commitment to freeze its nuclear program. Furthermore, the agreement outlines a roadmap for final negotiations within 60 days, including a reconstruction package for Iran worth over $300 billion.
Reports, including from Axios as reported by BAYRAKTAR, confirm that this involved a combination of electronic and physical signatures that took place over the past week. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed optimism, noting that this is a "path to sustainable peace."
However, not all commentators view the agreement in a positive light. On the Old School ✙ channel, known for its harsh criticism of the current administration's policies, it was argued that this represents a failure of Trump to achieve his original goals—such as the total dismantling of Iran's missile capabilities or regime change. The author claims that Iran has emerged stronger and that the agreement may be only temporary.
Alongside the agreements, there were also threatening tones; according to UA Stream reports, Trump clarified that if the agreement is violated, the US will not hesitate to use significant military force. At this stage, the parties are preparing for an intensive round of talks to turn the memorandum into a permanent peace treaty.
