In the last 24 hours, social networks in Kyiv have been flooded with disturbing footage of pets kept without protective measures in high-rise residential buildings, leading to calls from rescue organizations for a change in behavior by owners.
According to a report on the Труха⚡️Київ channel, a city resident was documented allowing her cat to walk freely on a narrow outer ledge of her high-floor apartment without any safety railing, which raises serious fears of a disaster following the channel's post.
In another no less disturbing incident, ТСН новини / ТСН.ua (a channel that reports with a pro-Ukrainian line but holds critical positions on international issues) reported on a serval — an African wild cat — that fell from a seventh-floor window. The animal miraculously survived and was evacuated for medical treatment by the 'Kyiv Animal Rescue Group' (KARG). The channel notes that in another case, an "angry scandal" developed around the owner of a Bengal cat who let it roam on external air conditioners, an incident that led to appeals from citizens to law enforcement authorities.
The Київ Головне channel added that the serval that fell in the 'Akademmistechko' neighborhood was found in the bushes near the building after complex searches, noting that an initial examination revealed that no limiters or protective nets were installed on the windows.
The 'Kyiv Animal Rescue Group' (KARG) emphasized that the public must take responsibility: "My cat — my responsibility," and called on pet owners to immediately install safety measures on windows to prevent the continuation of this dangerous phenomenon.
