Powerful earthquakes in Asia: Update from the field
In the last day, significant seismic events occurred in two different locations on the continent of Asia, leading to alerts among local authorities and reports of casualties.
China: Earthquake in Qinghai Province
According to a report by News from the Field on Telegram as well as on The News Line, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Qinghai Province in China. Reports stated that as a result of the tremor, "one person was killed and four others were injured." As of this hour, rescue teams are still operating in the field with the goal of "searching for those trapped under the rubble."
Indonesia: Dramatic footage from Sulawesi
At the same time, the Weather Ltd. channel reported on a 6.7 magnitude earthquake that struck the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. According to the channel, the earthquake occurred near the city of Palu at a shallow depth of about 10 kilometers.
According to Weather Ltd., the event was documented on social media in a dramatic fashion, as a "churning swimming pool was seen with water spilling from side to side with force." Authorities in Indonesia clarified that no tsunami warning was issued, although many residents in the area chose to evacuate to open spaces due to the intensity of the shaking.
