Kyiv accelerates winter preparations: Billions of shekels [currency unit] invested in energy infrastructure

Ahead of the upcoming winter season, the capital of Ukraine is executing the "Comprehensive Urban Resilience Plan." According to a report by Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the city has already completed the construction of cogeneration facilities with a capacity of 60 megawatts, while another 100 megawatts are in the work stages. The municipality's annual goal is to add 200 megawatts of decentralized energy capacity to the system.

As part of efforts to ensure the continuity of water and electricity supply, the official KMDA channel notes that three diesel generator units with a capacity of over 15 megawatts have already been installed. Klitschko emphasizes that this is a large-scale array including about 200 different projects, ranging from engineering protection to the implementation of solar energy in educational and health institutions.

The issue of funding stands at the heart of the dispute between the municipality and the central government. The Kyiv Municipality (KMDA) reports that the cost of the plan is estimated at about 30 billion hryvnia. According to the agreements, funding is supposed to be divided equally (50/50) between the municipality and the state. Mayor Klitschko clarified that the city is making enormous efforts to find the required budgetary sources, but he "expects a parity stance from the state and its financial participation."
