On the morning of June 16, 2026, Moscow experienced one of the most significant drone attacks since the outbreak of the war, as a fire broke out at the central refinery in the Kapotnya district. According to the war_monitor channel, which is affiliated with monitoring military activity, the attack included a direct hit on a strategic facility located just 15 kilometers from the Kremlin.
According to the reports from the Telegram channel 'Lachen Writes' (which takes a distinctly pro-Ukrainian line), this is a critical facility that supplies about 40% of Moscow's gasoline consumption and about 50% of its diesel, in addition to being the primary fuel supplier for the capital's airports. The ТСН channel noted that analysts believe an AVT-6 electro-desalting system was hit, which could lead to long-term disruptions in the city's fuel supply.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the attack and thanked the security forces, military intelligence, and special units for the "impressive results." According to the 'Kyiv Golovne' channel, this is a direct and "fair" response to Russian attacks on Ukraine. On the other hand, Ukrainian channels reported cynically on "massive traffic jams" and "anxiety" in the streets of the Russian capital following the attack.
