[85308] A changing of the guard in wrestling: Fardin Hedayati will represent Iran at the World Championships
Heavyweight drama: Fardin Hedayati will compete in the World Championships
As part of the battle for supremacy in the 130 kg Greco-Roman category, Varzesh3 reports that Fardin Hedayati managed to defeat Amin Mirzazadeh, a world champion and Olympic medalist, during the Takhti Cup finals. The match, defined as the deciding factor for the ticket to the 2026 World Championships, ended in a convincing 5-1 victory for Hedayati.
According to the report in Akharin Khabar Varzeshi, Mirzazadeh did not appear for the second match in the series due to an injury, which led to the official announcement of Hedayati as Iran's representative for the World Championships to be held in Kazakhstan. At the same time, it was agreed that Mirzazadeh will now focus on preparations to represent Iran at the Asian Games to be held in Nagoya, Japan.
The sources, which also include Akharin Khabar, emphasize the importance of the victory for Hedayati, who holds two gold medals in the U23 World Championships. Varzesh3 notes that this is a significant shift in momentum in the Iranian wrestling industry, as Mirzazadeh was until now considered the undisputed pillar of the category.
