Initiative to resume the Iranian football cup matches

Following the previous decision by the Football Federation management to declare an early end to the 2025-2026 football season, a wave of demands from clubs has emerged to resume the cup tournament. Ali Tajarnia, acting CEO of 'Esteghlal' club, sent an official letter to the heads of the organization requesting to hold the remaining matches and determine the identity of the champion on the pitch.

According to a report by the IRNA news agency, Tajarnia argues that this is a professional and sporting necessity. In his letter and tweets, as published in Varzesh 3, Tajarnia noted: "While we respect our national team's presence in the World Cup and wish them success, let us finish the cup matches." He further added that "three championship trophies are missing this year at the end of the season."

According to a post in 'Akharin Khabar Varzeshi', Tajarnia claims he has held consultations with the managements of the eight clubs remaining in the tournament, and according to him, "there is a general consensus among most of them" to continue the competition. These remarks have also resonated in Football 360 and the Esteghlal fan channel, which emphasize the public pressure to complete the season.

As of now, the Iranian League organization has yet to provide an official update or a new schedule since the statement that the matches would only resume after the end of the World Cup. The issue of completing the league and the cup remains pending as mere speculation due to the lack of an official response from the governing bodies.
