[83591] Political and security storm surrounding the emerging agreement with Iran
Tension surrounding the international agreement and the Iranian threat
The political storm in Israel is reaching its peak regarding a new international agreement, the details of which are drawing sharp criticism from various political echelons. Yair Golan attacked the government and claimed that "the agreement is being made over Israel's head," while accusing Netanyahu of actions that do not serve the Israeli interest regarding Iran. On the other hand, critical voices are also being heard within the coalition; Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich clarified firmly, as reported in Dafna Liel and Israel News IL, that "the agreement is bad for Israel."
At the same time, Minister Miki Zohar has set clear red lines regarding Iran's activities. In an interview with Reshet Bet as quoted in ynet and Zirat HaHadashot, Zohar declared that "if Iran has nuclear weapons - Israel will not sit on the sidelines," and added that if nuclear weapons are not achieved, Israel will see that as a strategic achievement. Concurrently, the President of Iran responded to international pressure by saying that his country "will not surrender to American arrogance" (ynet).
The internal political discourse in Israel continues to burn, also regarding the relationship with the U.S. and the Trump administration. Ben Caspit, who is associated with critical positions toward Netanyahu, criticized the statements by the Israeli right regarding Trump's associates and questioned the Qatari involvement in funding elements linked to the American administration during the war.
