Unprecedented combined air attack on Ukraine

On the night between June 1 and June 2, 2026, Russia launched a large-scale, combined air attack on a series of locations across Ukraine, primarily the capital Kyiv, as well as Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Poltava Oblast.

According to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the enemy launched a total of 729 air attack weapons, including 73 missiles (among them "Zircon", "Iskander-M", and "Kalibr" missiles) and 656 UAVs of various types. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that air defense forces managed to intercept or neutralize 642 of the targets, including 40 missiles and 602 UAVs.

Despite the efforts of the defense systems, sources report significant impacts. The Telegram channel "Lachen writes" notes that hits were identified at 38 different locations. The channel "Politika.ua" reports at least 10 deaths and dozens of wounded across the country, citing Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko regarding extensive destruction in the Podil district of the capital.

Official sources, including Yurii Ihnat from the Air Force as reported on "We-Ukraine", emphasized that this is one of the most intensive attacks since the beginning of the war, with an unusual number of "Zircon" missiles used. Conversely, the channel "Radio Svoboda" notes that Russia continues its official line denying intentional attacks against civilians, a claim that contradicts reports from the field regarding hits on residential buildings and civilian facilities.

The attack caused damage to electricity infrastructure and residential buildings. The channel "UA Stream" documented partial power outages in Kyiv and hits on warehouses and transport in the capital area. As of the morning hours of June 2, rescue and recovery operations continued amidst fears of renewed air threats.
