Iranian Parliament considers moving to virtual sessions due to security directives
Against a backdrop of security concerns, the Deputy Speaker of the Majlis (Iranian Parliament), Ali Nikzad, announced that plenary sessions may transition to a hybrid or virtual format. According to Nikzad as reported by Akhbar-e Fouri, the move is contingent upon receiving authorization from the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei.
The decision stems from a new security policy established by the Supreme National Security Council, which states that "the congregating of parliament members in one place is not acceptable" due to security constraints, as published by Akharin Khabar. This means limiting the physical presence of representatives inside the building.
Iran International network, which is identified with critical positions toward the regime in Iran, emphasized that the change in the nature of parliamentary work is directly subject to the discretion of the Supreme Leader. Nikzad clarified that if approval is granted, some representatives will be physically present in the plenary hall while the rest will participate remotely in a virtual manner.
The move reflects the high sensitivity among Iran's top leadership regarding gatherings of official bodies, under the directive that the assembly of parliament members in one place is no longer approved under the new procedures of the Security Council.
