High Alert in Al-Anbar due to floods from Syrian territories
On May 30, 2026, authorities in Iraq's Al-Anbar Governorate declared a "state of extreme alert" to deal with a wave of water arriving from the direction of Syria.
According to reports in واحد عراق and واحد عراق, the alert level was raised in order to protect the population and infrastructure from the sudden rise in water levels. The Iraqi News Agency (INA) confirmed the reports and stated that the governorate is working in close coordination with the relevant authorities.
Regarding the situation on the ground, according to a report in واحد العراق, the flow of water through the Euphrates River is currently "still under control." However, official data indicate that the water level has risen by approximately "one and a half meters since the start of the flow wave."

At this stage, government officials in Al-Anbar Governorate have not released further assessments regarding potential risks beyond the continuous monitoring of the river channels.
