[75377] The CHP mailing storm: Mutual denials surrounding the attempt to cancel Özgür Özel's event
Internal political tension in the CHP: Claims of an attempt to thwart a rally
In the last day, reports have emerged of growing tension within the Republican People's Party (CHP) in Turkey, surrounding a planned rally by the party chairman, Özgür Özel. Various sources, including Son Dakika Haberler Gündem and Son Dakika Haberler Türkiye, reported emphatically that the CHP headquarters submitted an official request to the Governor of Ankara demanding the cancellation of Özel's rally.
The reports, which gained further resonance on the GündemX channel, claimed that the move was carried out under the direction of the previous chairman, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. The news channel TGRT HABER added that Kılıçdaroğlu approached the governorship and the police with the goal of thwarting the event in parallel with other events.
Conversely, official party sources were quick to deny the reports vehemently. Atakan Sönmez, Kılıçdaroğlu's press advisor, stated that "The CHP administration has no request to the Governor of Ankara to ban the rally to be held tomorrow at Güvenpark". A similar denial came from the party's center to the media outlet tv100, where they emphasized that no request was filed to cancel the event.
The contradiction between the reports points to a deep internal power struggle. While sources supporting the official party narrative reject the reports as baseless, independent media outlets and "real-time news" channels insist that there were attempts by Kılıçdaroğlu's people to influence the decisions of the local government in Ankara on the matter.
