Ugandan authorities announced on May 27, 2026, the immediate closure of the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, following reports of a renewed outbreak of the Ebola virus in the area.

According to the report on Disclose.tv, the decision was made "Due to a surge in Ebola cases", which led the authorities to act immediately to prevent the spread of the virus into the country's territory.

According to the report, "anyone returning from the DRC into Uganda will be required to undergo mandatory 21-day self-isolation measures" (according to TabZ) – meaning that any person returning from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Uganda will be required to undergo mandatory self-isolation for 21 days.

These steps underscore the growing concern in East Africa regarding recurring viral outbreaks, as neighboring countries attempt to isolate hotspots before they cross national borders.
