[72557] Reports of a breakthrough in contacts between the US and Iran: A draft framework agreement is on the table
Dramatic development in contacts between Washington and Tehran
Conflicting reports are arriving from Iran regarding progress in negotiations with the United States. According to a report on Hadashot Mehashetach (News from the Field) on Telegram, which is identified with a critical stance toward Iran and Hamas, Iranian state television announced that a "preliminary and unofficial draft" for a framework agreement has been reached. According to the report's details, the outline includes the withdrawal of American forces from the Iran region and the lifting of the naval blockade imposed upon it, in exchange for the resumption of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
At the same time, sources in various media outlets, including 12 Pinit 99 - Yanir Cozin and Yaron Avraham and HaHadashot HaChamot (Hot News), quote reports from the Iranian Fars news agency, according to which President Donald Trump may announce the completion of the agreement unilaterally in the coming hours. According to those same sources, the move is defined as a "media step intended to create a false presentation of an agreement and exert public pressure," even before critical issues have been resolved between the parties.
Conversely, official Iranian sources sound more reserved. A representative from the Iranian negotiation team clarified to the "Fars" agency (as reported in Aslan - The Arab World) that "Iran will not sign any agreement until all of its demands are met in full." This official emphasized that only after all conditions are met will an official announcement be issued on behalf of Tehran.
Meanwhile, Hadashot BaZman (News in Real Time) reports on further progress regarding enriched uranium, citing The Wall Street Journal. According to the report, Iran has submitted a demand for the unfreezing of approximately 24 billion dollars as a preliminary phase in the agreement, while international mediators fear that "extremist elements in Iran will sabotage any deal."
