[71248] Erdogan presents a dramatic leap in Turkey's energy supply capabilities
Turkey tightens its grip on the regional energy market
In a series of statements from today, May 22, 2026, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan highlighted the dramatic improvement in his country's energy capabilities since taking power. According to reports from Son Dakika Haberler Gündem, the President noted that Turkey's daily natural gas entry capacity has jumped from just 90 million cubic meters to 495 million cubic meters today.
Erdogan detailed that the country now relies on a broad supply network consisting of five gas pipelines arriving from Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran. According to Son Dakika Haberler Gündem, Turkey has become a significant energy hub receiving gas from 39 different countries and more than 50 international energy companies.
At the same time, the A Haber channel, known for a distinctly pro-government line, reported that the President announced further expansion plans. According to A Haber, Turkey plans to increase its liquefied natural gas (LNG) handling capacity from 161 million cubic meters to 200 million cubic meters per day through new infrastructure investments.
The data presented reflects Ankara's ongoing effort to position itself as a central energy junction between the East and Europe, while diversifying energy sources and increasing gas storage and handling capabilities.
