Toward Eid al-Adha: Guidelines and an extended holiday in Uzbekistan

Ahead of the Festival of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha), which will fall this year on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, religious authorities in Uzbekistan have issued detailed guidelines for the public of believers. In accordance with the decision, citizens of the country will receive five consecutive days of vacation for the holiday.

According to Daryo | Rasmiy kanal, which reported on the official preparations, the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan published a series of rules regarding the sacrifice rituals, including "criteria for selecting the animals worthy of sacrifice and the proper manner of performing the ritual" according to a report by Daryo.

At the same time, Kun.uz | Rasmiy kanal emphasized that this is one of the highlights of the holiday for Muslims. The site published a collection of religious rulings and moral guidelines, relying on the official data of the Uzbek religious institution, with the aim of making information accessible to the public regarding "who is obligated to perform the sacrifice and what are the religious boundaries pertaining to it" according to a publication in Kun.uz.

Both Uzbek media channels, which are considered central and state-level sources of information in the country, provide comprehensive coverage of the logistical and religious aspects of the holiday, while emphasizing the preservation of tradition alongside the official guidelines of the government and the Muslim Board.
