Disappearance of a toddler in the Dubna settlement raises concern in Russia
Rescue forces, police, and volunteers have been conducting intensive searches since May 20 for Veronika, a 3-year-old toddler who disappeared in the settlement of Dubna in the Tula region of Russia. According to a report by РИА Новости, an agency associated with official government positions, investigative authorities have opened a criminal case following her disappearance.
According to reports in Baza and SHOT, the girl was last seen riding a balance bike near her home. Her vehicle was found in a forest, about 3 kilometers from the family home, in an area known as "Ovechya Guba". Emergency authorities note that the area is characterized by swampy terrain, streams, and deep ravines, which complicates the search efforts.
Readovka reports that the operation involves forces from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, diving teams, drones, and foot search groups, with aerial support from Moscow expected to join the efforts. The Следком (Russian Investigative Committee) has issued a call to the public to assist with any information that might lead to her discovery, emphasizing that this is an active criminal investigation case of high priority.
At the same time, additional reports from ТАСС addressed other disappearance incidents in Russia, including a separate case in Krasnoyarsk, in order to debunk rumors about residents fleeing the search area of the Osultsev family. Additionally, ТВК reported on logistical difficulties in the search for another missing person, Viktor Poteynikov, due to a tick infestation in the search area, which illustrates the environmental challenges in Russia during this season.
