Erdogan in Parliament speech: Focus on youth and sharp criticism of the CHP party
In a series of statements delivered during the Justice and Development Party (AKP) parliamentary group meeting in the Turkish Parliament on May 20, 2026, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan focused on two main axes: the future of the younger generation and a political attack on the Republican People's Party (CHP).
Regarding the youth, Erdogan declared that the future of the country rests on the shoulders of the next generation. As reported by TRT Haber (associated with government positions), the President emphasized that "the Turkey of the next century will be the creation of the young people." Similar sentiments were echoed in Borsa Hisse Haber and Borsa Haber Hisse, where it was highlighted that the government views the youth as the "shining star" of the current century. A Haber, a media outlet that supports the government line, quoted Erdogan as saying that "a movement that turns its back on the youth cannot succeed."
In the political arena, Erdogan attacked the main opposition party. According to reports in Sondakika Haber Gündem and Haber Gündem, the President claimed that the CHP has become a "party that embarrasses its voters" and that it is controlled by "a few incompetent individuals." Erdogan accused the party of mismanaging local authorities, using terms such as "turning municipalities into hubs of patronage."
In addition, İhlas Haber Ajansı highlighted the President's commitment to cooperation with the MHP party (the People's Alliance), while declaring a joint intention to build a Turkey of "peace, security, and prosperity." At the end of the events, in a lighthearted conversation with journalists reported in Haber Gündem, Erdogan responded to a question about his plans for Eid al-Adha by saying that the decision depends on his wife.
