New Infrastructure Threats in Ukraine: Russia Expands Use of Drones and Road Mining
The Logistical and Technological Terror Threat in Ukraine
Comprehensive reports from the Ukrainian front indicate an escalation in Russian tactics aimed at the country's rear. According to Реальна Війна | Україна | Новини, which identifies with a patriotic Ukrainian stance firmly against Russian aggression, Russia is planning a large-scale operation to mine strategic roads across Ukraine. According to activist Maria Berlinska, the goal is to "turn large cities into a front," while deliberately damaging fuel and food supply routes on axes such as Ternopil-Khmelnytskyi and Zhytomyr-Vinnytsia. Another source, Україна⚡️Новини⚡️Війна, notes that this is a systematic attempt to "cut off the logistics" of Ukraine beyond the traditional combat hotspots.
At the same time, Ukrainian experts warn of a dangerous technological development on the battlefield. As shown in reports by UA Stream, Russia is increasingly using fiber-optic drones ("waiting drones"), which allow them to bypass electronic warfare (EW) systems and remain invisible. Aviation expert Anatolii Khrapchynskyi explains that these drones act as "traps," waiting patiently alongside roads to attack moving targets.
Maria Berlinska, who heads the Victory Drones organization, emphasizes in an interview with UA Stream that "the war with Russia is eternal," and that the only strategy right now is to develop alternative kinetic means to deal with jam-resistant drones. While the Ukrainian army is developing countermeasures to the new technologies, the threat to the civilian rear remains tangible, with an expectation of increased hostile activity against transportation and logistics networks across the country.
