Unprecedented UAV attack on Ukraine

During the night of May 15-16, Russia launched a large-scale air attack on Ukraine, using 294 unmanned aerial vehicles of various types, including 'Shahed', 'Gerbera', 'Italmas', and 'Parodiya' decoy drones. According to data from the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, air defense systems, along with electronic warfare units and mobile fire groups, managed to intercept or disrupt 269 out of 294 UAVs.

Despite the high interception rates, Ukrainian officials, including the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army, reported hits in 20 different locations across the country, alongside debris falls in 9 other locations. Reports indicate targeted strikes in major cities: in Kharkiv, 'Suspilne' (Suspilne Kharkiv) reported hits on critical infrastructure, transport stations, and educational buildings, with at least one person injured. In Odesa, significant explosions were also recorded in the Izmail area, as reported by 'Odesa INFO'.

Parallel to defensive activity, reports of counter-strikes within Russia were published. The 'Andriushchenko Time' channel reported fires at industrial facilities and bases in Russia, including a chemical plant in the Stavropol region, claiming these are high-value targets for the Russian economy and military. Simultaneously, the 'SHALIN' channel published details of sabotage operations against Russian air defense systems (such as 'Tor-M2' and 'Pantsir-S1') and vessels in occupied territories and inside Russia.

The attack underscores the growing intensity of the war. The General Staff of the Ukrainian Army updated that over the past day, 263 military clashes were recorded, adding that Russian losses amounted to 1,230 soldiers, alongside the destruction of heavy military equipment. It should be noted that the Ukrainian sources reported here are under leadership mobilized for the war effort and reflect a narrative of steadfast resistance against ongoing aggression.
