An intense exchange of drone strikes between Russia and Ukraine has led to numerous casualties, damage to civilian infrastructure, and disrupted airports on both sides of the border.
Over the last 24 hours, there has been a significant escalation in the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 138 Ukrainian drones that penetrated Russian airspace, covering a wide range that included Moscow, the Crimean Peninsula, the Rostov region, and other areas. Russia reports casualties in Belgorod, where according to RT, a multi-story residential building was hit and 9 people were injured, including a 3-year-old toddler. In an interview with Solovyov, it was noted that four people were killed and 28 injured in Ryazan, an event defined by the authorities as "terrorism."
Simultaneously, Ukraine experienced widespread attacks on civilian targets and port infrastructure. According to ASTRA reports, a channel presenting a critical line toward the Russian government, the Kherson and Odessa regions were attacked. In Odessa, drones hit a five-story residential building and port infrastructure, where according to 'Odessa As It Is', there are casualties and heavy damage to warehouses and administrative buildings. The 'Current Time' channel emphasized that Russia launched nearly 300 drones in total overnight.
Data from the non-governmental organization CIT, which monitors damage to civilian infrastructure, presents a grim picture of widespread hits on both sides. According to reports, Ukraine is counting casualties in the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, and Kherson regions, while in Russian-controlled territories (such as Donetsk and Shakhtyorsk), damage to cultural centers and civilians was reported.
The situation on the ground led to the temporary suspension of flights at some airports in southern Russia, including Gelendzhik and Krasnodar. Both sides are using conflicting narratives: while state-run Russian media outlets emphasize the "defense of the motherland" and compensation for the families of the victims, Ukrainian media and independent sources focus on the heavy damage caused to cities and civilian infrastructure under what is described as a "massive attack."
