Opening of Cultural Events and Adjustments in the Iranian Education System

Starting this morning, May 16, 2026, the seventh virtual book fair in Tehran officially opened. IRNA News Agency, which is identified with official government positions, reports that 2,296 publishers are participating in the event under the slogan "Let's Read for Iran." The fair, operating on the website book.icfi.ir, is expected to continue until June 2.

According to reports in خبر فوری جنگ ایران and آخرین خبر, the Iranian public is entitled to a 25% discount on book purchases up to a ceiling of two million Tomans, with free shipping provided. IRNA News Agency notes that this year, special emphasis was placed on children's literature, with free shipping for all children's books in memory of the children of Minab.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the event and praised the importance of reading. According to his remarks published in IRNA, Pezeshkian called the exhibition "a sign of the vitality of thought and cultural dynamism," and added that "societies that have succeeded in overcoming crises, wars, and the darkness of ignorance are those that placed knowledge and wisdom at the center of their cultural lives."

Meanwhile, a significant administrative decision was published in the education system. IRNA News Agency reports that the Tehran Department of Education ordered that final exams for grades 7 through 10 be held in an online (non-frontal) format. The decision stems from the fact that a significant part of the year was spent in remote education, as well as the presence of many students and teachers outside the Tehran province.
