[60860] Extensive Russian drone attack on central and northern Ukraine
Extensive aerial attack wave across Ukraine
Throughout the day of May 15, 2026, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported massive attack waves of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs/drones) that penetrated Ukrainian airspace from several directions. The attacks focused on vast areas, with military security officials pointing to a concentrated movement of drones toward the capital Kiev, the Chernihiv region, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and other areas.
The Air Force of Ukraine provided updates throughout the day on the progress of the vehicles, noting that "groups of drones moved along the border with Belarus" toward the Kiev district, and some were directed straight toward the city of Kiev and Brovary. Simultaneously, the channel єРадар | Повітряна тривога, which specializes in real-time alerts, reported on drones equipped with cameras hovering over the Kiev reservoir and targeted attacks in the Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, and Sumy regions.
In the southern districts, movement of drones from the direction of the Black Sea toward the Odessa and Mykolaiv districts was reported. The Kiev Regional State Administration officially confirmed the movement toward the capital and instructed the public to follow safety instructions. In addition, Kiev Operative noted a consistent presence of hostile vehicles in the skies over the north of the district.
The attack reflects a Russian strategy of continuous aerial pressure on Ukrainian infrastructure. According to cumulative reports from the Air Force of Ukraine, several types of aircraft were used, including jet-powered vehicles, which increases the complexity of the required air defense. No official data has been released so far regarding casualties or detailed damage to critical infrastructure as a result of the current attack.
