[60824] Palestinian factions mark 78 years since the Nakba with statements on continuing resistance

Marking 78 years since the Nakba, Palestinian resistance factions released a series of statements condemning Israeli activity in Judea, Samaria, and the Gaza Strip. In an official statement, Islamic Jihad defined the Zionist project as an "immediate danger to all the peoples of the region," and emphasized that the struggle is a "religious, national, and moral duty." The organization called on the international community to act to repeal legislation allowing the death penalty for security prisoners.

For its part, the Hamas movement clarified that "there is no legitimacy or sovereignty for the occupation on the land of Palestine," while accusing Israel of carrying out a "war of extermination, starvation, and ethnic cleansing" over the past two years. Hamas noted that since the ceasefire last October, it claims more than 850 civilians have been killed as a result of violations by security forces. The movement emphasized that "resistance in all its forms is a natural and legitimate right," and rejected any attempt to disarm Palestinian organizations.

The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement joined these calls, and placed on Britain and its Western allies "full responsibility for the ongoing suffering of our people" due to their early support for the establishment of the state. The organization called on Israeli Arabs, residents of Jerusalem, and the West Bank to "escalate the confrontation" against what it defined as a fascist Zionist occupation.

At the same time, the Professional Unions Assembly in Gaza issued an appeal to professional unions and labor organizations around the world, calling to exert pressure on Israel, impose a boycott on entities supporting it, and act to end the "siege and starvation" in the Strip, as part of the international effort to promote the right of return.
