[60807] The Government Appointments Storm: Criticism of the Attorney General and the Freezing of the Second Authority Council
Rising Tension Between the Government and the Legal System
On May 15, 2026, two central issues concerning the interface between the government and the legal echelon stood at the center of public discourse.
Criticism of the Government's Legal Counsel
Journalist Amit Segal published a sharp column criticizing the Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and her Deputy, Gil Limon. Segal, who is known for his views critical of the legal system, claims that the two are the "main engine" for a move whose goal, according to him, is to "delay and interfere at any cost" with the government's appointments and initiatives. According to Segal, "Limon and his group are causing severe damage to democracy because they are constantly changing the rules." In this context, he points to the case of the appointment of Roman Gofman as Head of the Mossad as the peak or low point of their conduct, while arguing that fundamental flaws in appointments exist within the Ministry of Justice itself.
High Court Freezes Minister Karhi's Appointments
At the same time, the War Room 🎗️ channel reports on a High Court decision to extend the interim order against the appointment of the political Second Authority Council by Minister Shlomo Karhi. According to the report, a panel of three judges ordered a freeze on the government's decisions regarding the appointment of the council and its chairman, and also froze their decisions. The court granted limited authority to the previous council, in accordance with the position of the Attorney General.
