[60831] Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi: There is no military solution; Tehran doubts US credibility
Diplomatic tension: Araghchi sets conditions for negotiations with the US
In a series of statements made today, May 15, 2026, the Iranian Foreign Minister sharply criticized the conduct of the American administration. According to the Akhbar-e Fori channel, which is identified with the positions of the Iranian establishment, the minister claimed that "the contradictory messages from the US are the central problem," and that there are "subversive and belligerent elements trying to derail diplomacy from its path."
In a conversation with Indian media, reported by the Khabar-e Fori-ye Jang channel, Araghchi clarified that Iran does not believe in the existence of a military solution and noted that the US "has failed at least twice" in such attempts. The minister added that Iran is maintaining an "unstable" ceasefire and aims to exhaust diplomatic channels.
Regarding freedom of navigation, the minister emphasized in a report by Akharin Khabar that the Strait of Hormuz is not blocked to friendly countries, but only for "enemies of Iran," and that coordination with their forces is required for safe passage. However, Araghchi emphasized in another report by Akharin Khabar that Iran cannot "trust the Americans" without clear and pre-defined agreements.
On the nuclear front, the SNN news agency reported that Araghchi admitted that discussions on uranium enrichment had reached a "deadlock." As a result, the issue has been removed from the immediate agenda and will be deferred to later stages of the negotiations, while examining potential Russian proposals for continuation.
