According to the report in 'Points in the Paint', the decision was made after negotiations with the League Administration fell apart. The Players' Association warns against the "continued erosion of the status of the Israeli player," claiming that the number of minutes played by Israelis has plummeted to an average of 73.8 minutes this season, compared to 91.9 in the previous season.

The association's chairman, Nir Alon, clarified that the strike is a "last resort" intended to fight the flooding of the league with foreign players, who he claims arrive due to tax benefit considerations and not professional quality: "This is a struggle for the future of Israeli basketball, the status of the Israeli player and the future of the Israeli national teams." Due to the announcement, several games planned for the coming days were canceled, including the matchups between Kiryat Ata and Netanya and between the Valley and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

On the other hand, the League Administration presented a contradictory and surprising narrative. In an official response, the Administration stated that "contrary to the published reports, the Winner League basketball games will take place as scheduled." The Administration harshly attacked the Players' Association, calling it an "organization of wheeler-dealers" and accusing it of harming the basketball community and the fans during a sensitive time.
