Extreme Weather Alerts in Iran: Fear of Floods and Sandstorms

The Meteorological Service in Iran issued an orange alert this morning, Thursday, May 14, 2026, for vast areas in the northeast of the country. According to reports in Khabar-e Fori-ye Jang-e Iran, identified as a channel oriented towards breaking news and domestic updates, as well as in Akharin Khabar, a popular general news channel, thunder, lightning, and strong winds are expected in the regions of North Khorasan, Razavi Khorasan, as well as the slopes of the Golestan and Semnan mountains.

According to the channels' reports, the authorities warn that the intensity of the system could lead to "causing floods, overflowing of rivers, and flooding on roads" in these locations. The warning emphasizes the potential risk to life and property in these areas due to the intense precipitation activity.

Simultaneously with the system's activity in the northeast, reports warn of a significant decrease in air quality in other cities and regions. According to the 'Akharin Khabar' announcement, an increase in the concentration of dust and polluting particles is expected in the center, west, southwest, and east of the country, due to strong winds expected to raise sand clouds in these areas.

Residents in the affected areas have been asked to take precautionary measures and follow the instructions of emergency services in light of the extreme weather conditions characterizing the day.
