[58925] Criticism of the readiness of standby squads and calls for the destruction of Hamas
Security tension: Readiness in the Envelope and calls for a decisive victory
On May 13, 2026, two key issues concerning Israel's security and the war on Hamas rose to the agenda. At the center of the discussion: the criticism of the standby squads system in the Envelope communities and the strategic debate on the future of Hamas in the Strip.
Alarm over the readiness of the standby squads
Almog Boker, known for his criticism of the political and military echelon regarding internal security issues, warns against a false sense of security. According to Boker, an examination he conducted during an exercise by the Southern Brigade revealed that "10 out of 18 members of the standby squad were not in the moshav." Boker claims that this is "self-deception" and calls on the political echelon, headed by Netanyahu and Defense Minister Katz, to lead "a real conscription law and an extension of service" in order to ensure true security for the residents who have returned to their homes.
Debate on the fate of Hamas
At the same time, Tamir Morag, who expresses firm right-wing positions, spoke out against the possibility that Hamas could be disarmed and continue to exist as a political entity. Morag argues that "there is no such thing as Hamas that can disarm and remain as a political party," and compares the organization to "a cancer spreading in the body." According to his position, any attempt to contain the organization is doomed to failure and that "Hamas must be destroyed."
