A group of 20 American congressmen, Democrats and Republicans alike, appealed in an official letter to the British government demanding to accelerate the legislative processes to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization. According to the report on Iran International, the lawmakers emphasized that the British delay allows the organization to evade the full impact of joint sanctions.

Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman, one of the initiators of the letter, stated that "every day that the British Parliament delays [the declaration], the Revolutionary Guards evade another day of the impact of our joint sanctions," as reported on Iran International. At the same time, Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney called the Revolutionary Guards "one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations in the world," adding that the organization exports terror and brutally suppresses the citizens of Iran, as published on DW Persian.

The American demand comes against the backdrop of other countries joining the international fight against the organization. As noted on DW Persian, the United States designated the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization back in 2019, with Canada joining the move in 2024, Australia in 2025, and the European Union in February 2026.

In their letter, the congressmen – including Michael Lawler, according to a report on پیام ایران – emphasized that Britain must "stand on the right side of history" and send a clear message to the world that the West will not tolerate terrorism, political violence, or antisemitism.
