[57683] China pushes for a Pakistani mediation initiative to calm tensions in the Middle East
Chinese diplomatic initiative to calm the region
During May 13, 2026, Arab media outlets, led by Al Jazeera, reported on official statements from the Chinese Foreign Ministry calling for a significant change in Pakistan's diplomatic involvement in the Middle East. Beijing is putting pressure on Islamabad to expand its mediation efforts with the stated goal of "ending the war in the Middle East," as reported by Sam Syria News and Al-Mamlaka Channel.
At the heart of the diplomatic activity is the Chinese aspiration to reduce tensions around strategic shipping routes. According to Al Jazeera, the Chinese Foreign Minister expressed hope that Pakistan could contribute to an appropriate solution to the issue of opening the Strait of Hormuz. The Chinese demand also encompasses the need for direct mediation between Iran and the United States, as published by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) and other media outlets.
Beijing has made it clear that it intends to continue actively supporting these efforts, while offering to provide its "contribution" to advancing the mediation process, according to reports from Akhbar Al-Ghad. At the same time, media outlets identified with the Axis of Resistance, such as Al Mayadeen, highlighted the Chinese demand as part of a broader move toward mediation in the region.
Meanwhile, statements were also recorded from officials in Beijing on other global geopolitical issues, as according to Lebanon News, China clarified that it "strongly opposes" any form of military relations between the United States and Taiwan.
