According to reports distributed across various Telegram channels on May 12, 2026, the Reuters news agency published that Saudi Arabia carried out a series of secret airstrikes against targets inside Iran during the recent war in the Middle East. According to the channel associated with the Iranian opposition, Iran International, the strikes were carried out in direct response to attacks on Saudi soil and serve as evidence that the Gulf states are moving into a "phase of direct response."
Western sources cited by Hami-yan-e Pezeshkian noted that the strikes, which were carried out by the Saudi Air Force at the end of March, took place after Riyadh had updated Tehran in advance of its intentions. On the channel Resistance of Ansarallah Yemen – a body identified with the Axis of Resistance – it was claimed that these were "at least 10 airstrikes" in response to actions by Iranian proxy forces against oil facilities and Saudi security infrastructure.
The reports emphasize that after the strikes, intense diplomatic moves took place, mediated by Oman and Qatar, to prevent the expansion of the conflict. As published in Akhbar-e Fouri (a politically oriented channel reporting on military and security affairs), the parties reached an agreement "not to increase tensions" after the retaliatory strikes were completed.
On the other hand, entities identified with the Iranian regime, such as IRGC News Channel, referred to the report as merely a claim by Reuters, while emphasizing the context of the "Ramadan War" and previous attacks carried out by Iran. The channel Fars International, associated with the Fars News Agency, noted that the Saudi strikes occurred "in parallel to the military aggression of the US and the Zionist regime," thereby presenting a narrative linking Saudi Arabia to Western activity in the region.
