The National Security Committee approved today (May 12, 2026) the government's request to extend the state of emergency in prisons, a step that continues the security policy implemented since the outbreak of the war. According to the data published by Kol HaHadashot on 🆃🅴🅻🅴🅼🆁🅰️🅼🔴, the number of prisoners in Israel currently stands at 23,319 people.

These figures reflect a significant increase of approximately 6,966 prisoners since October 7. In this context, Kol HaHadashot notes that out of the total number of prisoners, 9,474 are defined as security prisoners, a figure that highlights the strain on the Israeli prison system.

Similar reports were also relayed on the Rega Hadashot - Army and Security on Telegram channel, which confirmed that the committee approved the government's request and presented identical data regarding the number of prisoners according to Rega Hadashot.
